THE CHESAPEAKE.
The Chesapeake Bay Dog is somewhat like the Labrador Retriever, but the American dog is said to be sturdier and works under harder conditions. Often he will swim for hours in icy-cold water, retrieving duck. Note here in what workmanlike manner he carries the bird, dead in the centre, allowing no wing to flap over his eyes. Reprinted from Hutchinson's Dog Encyclopaedia (England, circa 1935).
